That’s a wrap on the 2023-24 Wrestling season! The club saw an incredible 500% increase in participation over the last 2 years, with over 100 kids participating in the club this season! So much growth was seen by all the kids in the club over the past 4-5 months.
A special shoutout to all the award winners last night! We look forward to seeing everyone back on the mats next winter! Portland Portland Portland Wrestling Pride!!
Congratulations again to all!!!
- Coach Reed
Coach Reed hosted 3 days of conditioning for the pre-registered 3rd through 5th graders at the end of November, getting them prepped for the upcoming season.
This gave returning and new wrestlers the chance to get in the wrestling room and burn off some energy while they were at it!
He also participated in an alumni event where he got to work with the high school wrestlers, and the Portland K-12 wrestling program attended the Confluxcity Turkey Trot!
December marked the start of our season and brought with is several fun opportunities.
Our camp registration numbers reached over 100 kids this year, and we enlisted the help of our high school wrestlers to come in and lend a hand. Together with our coaching staff, they were able to teach the basics of wrestling to the campers, as well as play some pretty intense games of tug-of-war.
January 3rd the club got to wrestle on the mats alongside our Varsity teams at our annual youth night. January 5th we took our newest wrestlers to Charlotte for a Novice meet. Mother nature hasn't played well with us the last couple of weeks, so hopefully we'll be back on the mat soon!
In all levels of Portland's K-12 wrestling program we believe it's important to introduce elements of fun, and teambuilding events. This year we took advantage of an off week, and the snow that mother nature dumped on us, and the club hosted a sledding event. We enjoyed each other, pizza, cocoa, and a lot of laughs.
In February much of the club wrapped up with a takedown tournament hosted in Carson City and some of our competitive wrestlers made their way to MYWAY regionals.
2024 Summer Camp recap!
This summer we spent 4 days in the wrestling room with more than 60 kids. Our clinicians for camp included Gunnar Williams of the Varsity team and 6 other varsity team members, and a 3-time National placer, Kendra Ryan. The kids and clinicians had a great time learning from each other and making the camps a BIG success!
Summer camps are a great way for kids to try wrestling for the first time, and for kids who have wrestled before to learn more. We are looking forward to the season this winter but will absolutely be scheduling a summer camp for next year!
Additional information about the club and the wrestling season will be available at parent meetings; watch facebook and this page for dates and times.
